How It Works
160 adults of 65 years on average participated in a 6-month study. Participants had no physical activity before the investigation, had difficulty making decisions and concentrating, and had signs of cardiovascular disease such as hypertension. All have undergone cognitive tests.
We excluded any person diagnosed with dementia or who could not practice for some reason. The researchers randomly divided the participants into 4 groups.
• The first group had to do the DASH diet. This diet is very healthy for the heart and blood vessels, but it also has a positive effect on the whole body.
• The second group completed a full aerobic program 3 times a week: they heated for 10 minutes, then 35 minutes of continuous walking or cycling at one stop. The particularity of this group was that there was no dietary restriction.
• The third group had to do most of the work. The participants did exercises 3 times a week and followed the DASH diet.
• The fourth group presented a 30-minute presentation on the risk of cardiovascular disease. And participants were not recommended to change diets or habits.
Brain Health Improves Along With Heart Health.
The best results in the second cognitive test were demonstrated by the group that exercised and followed the diet. The participants of the third group obtained a score of 47 on average against 42 for the second group and 38 for the fourth.
At the beginning, the mean functional functional score of the group was 93 years, 28 years older than the average age of 65 years. After 6 months of experience, his mental age was reduced to 84 years. The DASH diet and workouts have allowed researchers to reduce brain aging in 9 years.
Dr. Richard Isaacson, head of the Alzheimer’s Disease Prevention Clinic, said that controlled workouts not only improved brain function, but they did it very quickly.
